Placement Information

Cape Primary School was built in 1890 and consists of a Junior, Infant and Nursery block. It has three separate playground areas. The school environment is set in secure grounds. The school caters for children from three to eleven years and has a Parents and Toddlers group that operates four times a week. The school is a multicultural school, with children coming from places all over the world, mainly Eastern Europe countries, Africa and Asia. The school provides support for the children who don't speak English as their first language. The school has over 30 languages spoken.

Accommodation

There is plenty of accommodation around Birmingham, whether you want to stay in the town centre and catch a bus to the school or stay in Smethwick where the school is based. Such as premier Inns or holiday inns.

Transport

If you have a car, there is not very much room to park it, as there is limited amount of space in the school car park. There is a small car park by the side of the school aswel, but if your not there earlier enough they get taken up, so you would have to park your car on the side of the road. There are a variety of buses that go past the school every 20 minutes.

Social life

In Smethwick, where the school is based, there are not a lot of activities to do. The best bet is to get a bus into Birmingham, where there are plenty of things to do such as cinema, shopping, clubbing, Think Tank (science museum) and other activities and a variety of places to eat.

Things to do, things not to do

You have to make sure you are wearing smart clothes and must be respectful to all the different types of backgrounds that children come from that are at the school.

Useful Contacts

Before you go

Before you go it would be best if you got in contact with the school and go in and introduce yourself to staff members and have a look around the school. I was lucky as my Mum works there, so i have been in with her before, so didn't need to go and introduce myself or look around. I would also recommend that you start researching the country you are going to choose before you go into the school so you will be aware of what your looking for when you go on placement.
