Placement Information

The Elementary School has set a mission statement which is:  "to prepare each student physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually to become a confident, self-directed, life-long learner."   

The staff at the school are extremely welcoming the school has a general happy atmosphere. The school is very well organised, when we first got there they had to bags for both of us full of information such as the timetable they had prepared for us and few pens, sweets and little gifts. They also gave us both a bag at the end full of little gift from the school such as a photo frame, the school recipes book etc.

The school has Rules that the children need to follow by linking it with the school logo which is a lion (ROAR), the children are expected to know these:

R - Respectful

O - Organised

A - An active learner

R - Responsible

You can buy school dinners at a small price and a small amount, it is advised to take your own lunch as you only get a tiny amount at school and they only get a break once at lunch so this would be your only time you would be able to eat while at the school.

we stayed with a family member, it is best to go if you know someone who lives that that you can stay with and transport you there and back. 

Transport

It would be beneficial if you knew someone here as there is not any public transport as everyone has cars out here.

The children at the school get to travel on the bus for free to and from school however most their parents do the school run as the school bus comes really early in the morning.

Social life

Eating out is very common in America, vegetarians are slowly becoming more common here therefore there are more vegetarian options now. You must be 21 to gamble and buy alcohol their even when you go out to eat they ask every person who orders an alcoholic drink for I.D.

In Augusta, Georgia Christianity is the most practiced religion here. On Sundays the shops don't open till 12 in the afternoon and they close by 6pm instead of 9pm like the rest of the week and in some counties they don't sell alcohol in restaurants as well as their shops.

Things to do, things not to do

Make sure you take plane tops as the teachers have to wear clothing without any big patterns on or big logos. the children at the school are able to wear whatever they like though.
