Placement Information

Bay Meadows Elementary School is a lovely school, they are more than helpful, and are willing to answer any questions which we have. They have made us feel so welcome, and all of the kids are amazing and so cute. They have a lot of questions about England, and are amazed by our accents.

I would definitely recommend coming to this school!

The schools mascot is a Koala: Koalaty Organisation Always Leads to Achievement.

In comparison to the U.K the school is fairly big, with around 5 classes for each year group, however class sizes are a little smaller, with a limit of 18 pupils per class.

The teachers were all really friendly and even gave us lifts home from the placement each evening. They advised us places to eat, and took us to Walmart twice to save us some money.

Accommodation

We are staying in The International Palms Resort, on International Drive; and although it is a little old fashioned, and could do with a paint, it is clean, and the maids come in each day to make your beds, and give you clean towels. It is definitely worth the 250.00 we paid for the whole 3 weeks. There are 2 double beds, a hair dryer, iron and iron board, and a safe which is free of charge. There is also a fridge and a micro wave.

Transport

As we are staying on International Drive, we have decided to get a 14 day bus pass which cost us around $17 this allows unlimited transport on the I ride. The I ride, is a shuttle which runs up and down International drive all day, every 15 minutes. The shuttlestops at certain parks, such as Seaworld and Aquatica.

To get to the placement, we have been catching a taxi each morning, which costs around $12, we would both advise that you ask for a yellow cab with a metre, as on our first day we were charged a little too much, we weren't sure if this is because we were tourists, as well as them not having a metre.

Things to do, things not to do

Although we are here on a placement, on your free days we would definitely recommend going to some of the parks! They are amazing.  We brought park tickets before we went from floridatix, and paid £180 for a 6 park pass (Flexiticket), which was really cheap considering some parks can cost upto $80 for on the gate entry and lasts for 14 days (not consecutive) with unlimited use at any of the parks stated.

We had alot of fun shopping. :D both the milennia mall and the florida mall are great for shopping, but the outlets on I Drive are both worth a visit for designer bargains.

To save money we have been going to the supermarket to buy cereal for breakfaast, and things to bring in for our packed lunch.  Walmart is about 5 minutes away from this hotel in a taxi and is much cheaper than walgreens, however walgreens is convenient being a 5 minute walk away, if that.

The Olive Garden, is a really nice restaurant to eat at and really reasonable price wise. Hard Rock cafe and Planet Hollywood

at downton disney were both nice places to eat aswell as providing a upbeat atmosphere.
