Placement Information

Playworks is an organisation that campaigns for children's right to play, both indoors and outdoors in a safe and exciting way. They offer play activities, training courses, networking information, volunteering opportunities and resources which are accessible for everyone within the local community. The scrapstore is a valuable resource for everyone in the community, providing craft materials donated from local businesses at a very low cost. The play sessions which take place at various locations around Nottingham City, are funded by Children in Need and lottery grants, allow children to take part in craft and outdoor play activities and give parents a chance to meet with each other and meet new families within the community.

Accomodation

Playworks is located on Alfred Street North on the edge of St Anns in Nottingham. It is easily accessible by bus and car although car parking is very limited around the area therefore I would suggest walking or using public transport and it is only a short walk from the Victoria Centre.

Transport

If walking:

Out of the Victoria Centre opposite Aldi, turn left and walk up Huntingdon Street. Turn right down Kilbourn Street and then turn right onto Alfred Street North. The building is just on the left opposite the pub.

Things to do, things not to do

  • Make the most of every opportunity given to you. There may be chance for you to take part in a training course or do a fundraising event at the weekend. Take part in as many activities as you can while at Playworks.
  • Talk to the staff. Everyone at Playworks is willing to talk to you and give you as much information as you need. Any questions you have will be answered so just ask!
  • Talk to the people who use Playworks. Most people who use the services at Playworks are also willing to give their opinions on the services provided. It is very useful to hear what they think about what is offered and how it benefits them.
  • Be enthusiastic. The more you put in, the more you get out!
  • Don't just wait to be told what to do. Ask what you can do to help or just find something to do!

Useful Contacts

Call : 0115 958 9199
Email : info@playworks.org.uk

I would advise sending a general email to the address above explaining who you are and what you would like to do etc. They will then direct you to the member of staff responsible for placements who will then get back to you.

Before you go

Before you go look at their website : www.playworks.org.uk

This will give you some idea of what Playworks is all about before you start. If you go in on the first day knowing a bit about what they do it will show that you are interested and ready to become part of the team!!
