Placement Information
Wheelbase is based in Sneinton in Nottingham. Wheelbase is an organisation that works with children aged between 14-19 years old. It is a project that allows young people a place to learn that may be exposed to domestic problems or those that just don't enjoy school. It allows them to have a place where they can stay out of trouble which is open between 9-3:30 every Monday to Thursday.
There are two groups that are split up, one morning session and one afternoon session. In the morning, the first group are in the Classroom where they are learning English, Maths and basic ICT skills where they can get a OCR Level 1 in English and Maths.
The aim of Wheelbase is to limit the crime rate that the young people may cause and provide a good quality of education allowing them to leave Wheelbase with an apprenticeship and a future carer. The facility has a workshop where the young people are able to fix cars/motorbikes and get a IMI Level 1 in Vehicle Maintenance. They are taught about different topics i.e. Health and Safety, Braking Systems etc. They then are able to get an IMI Certificate and Diploma Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Technology.
All workers and volunteers there all speak English and are very easy to speak to.

Before you go
I think it's essential that you either call or e-mail Barbara to have a visit of Wheelbase to check it out. She is a very busy lady so it's advisable to speak to her beforehand. She is very easy to talk to and very relaxed. I highly recommend this placement and would love to go back there to volunteer in the near future
