Placement Information

Kinder was a lovely nursery to work at. They have an established placement programme with people doing similar placements from all over the world. They give a lot of time to placement students, having meetings with us every day and encourage us to socialise and mix with other placement students via a Facebook group. There are English, German, Catalan and Spanish groups. We would recommend asking to be placed in the English groups as it involves a stronger communication with the children.

Accomodation

The actual nursery provided no accommodation as such but it is easy to find local apartments to rent. We found a brilliant one on a website called Air B&B only a five minute walk away from Kinder! If you ask Kinder they also have a few links which are helpful to finding places. Both Kinder and our apartment was in an area called Poblenou. It was a small, family orientated town with everything that you could need for your stay. Poblenou is also right next to the beach which was lovely for weekends and after placement.

Transport

Barcelona has a great transport system. You can get a 10 journey ticket which only costs 10 euros. Within one journey you can change lines as many times as you want and it still counts as only one journey. The nearest metro stop to Kinder is called Pouble Nou which is on the yellow line. Taxis around town and late at night are also really cheap, you can either jump in a yellow registered taxi or there are internet apps that you can order a taxi on, just like in England.

Social life

There is so much to do here! Pouble Nou itself has a few nice restaurants, a beach and bars, however is more of a residential area. A few stops away and you are in the heart of Barcelona. La Rambla is the main street where loads of shops and bars are. Also there is so much tourism to see here. In the main areas of Barcelona, there are tourist stalls where you can go and ask any questions that you need to know and they will tell you the best things to do at the best times and how to go about doing them.

Things to do, things not to do

Do all the tourism there is to do! It it such a great city to see it would be a shame to miss out. We specifically recommend, Casa Battlo, Park Guell, Park Cituadella, Funicular Montjuic and the Magic Fountains. Although the weather was not great for the first part of our trip it did not stop us doing anything as there are so many different things to do for all weather types.
