Enable is a voluntary organisation that works with people of all ages who have learning disabilities, encouraging and empowering them to be involved in the community. The services Enable provide are Friendship Links, a day in the community for small groups of individuals with similar interests and ages (aged 16-25), Transition, monthly activity days and weekends for young people aged 7-17, and Flexible Respite, weekend respite for adults aged 18-65. Enable is very person centred and individually led so all activities are chosen by the participants. These can be things like bowling, going to the cinema, shopping, crazy golf etc. Your role as a volunteer will be to accompany and support the participants ensuring they have an enjoyable experience.
I live nearby Enable's base so I was able to stay at home however there are hotels in nearby towns for accommodation
Unfortunately there is no bus service near Enable's base so it would be best to drive or get a taxi. Some of the services Enable provide may require you to travel to different towns or cities but bus services will be able to accommodate this.
Northern Ireland has many tourist attractions. One of the best cities to visit is Belfast as it has lots of shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. There are also museums and sight seeing tours available from the city centre. These tours can take you around Belfast's many attractions and there are also ones that will take you to some of Northern Ireland's most scenic attractions around the North coast including the Giants Causeway and Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge. The TV show Game of Thrones is partly filmed in Northern Ireland and so there are also numerous tours available to take you around all the filming locations. Bus and Train services travelling to different areas of the Republic of Ireland are available too, giving you the chance to explore some of that country.
