Placement Information

Prohealth UK provide placements for students at various stages of their training; Information on placements can be found directly on the website following this link; Placement details. The company is based at Bourne House Cottage which is on Watling Street in Weeford. When arriving on my first day of placement I  was warmly welcomed into the company;  all of the staff at Prohealth were fantastic and helped me to settle in; they also made sure that I could get involved in as much as possible including current projects that were taking place. Due to the fact that I have no counselling qualifications I was unable to take any counselling sessions on my own however I was given many opportunities to observe child counselling sessions and adults counselling sessions in various different types of therapy such as CBT. I was also able to observe internal and external supervisions; visit The Friary School for child counselling sessions; visit the community room at Tesco which is for the Postnatal Depression group sessions. All of the staff were extremely helpful and were always answering any questions that I had and anything I was unsure of.

My mentor was very flexible with how many hours I needed to complete and when I wanted to complete them; as I have 60 hours to completed I opted to complete them in 2 full weeks so that I would get a real feel for the company and how it works on a day to day basis. The whole team really helped to fill up my days with various activities so that I gained as much experience as possible. I worked 9am -3pm  most days but occasionally these times would change as on some days I had to be in for 8.30am so that my mentor and I could travel up to the school for 9am; and so I would finish at 2.30pm.

On Monday mornings all staff meet for 9pm at Bourne house for a staff meeting which consists of information about new clients in terms of what counsellors have taken them on and what stage they are at in terms of being discharged. the meeting also reviews and changes, developments or projects within the company and will inform all staff of any updates or news so that everyone is fully aware of the company status. This was a very informative time for me as it gave me a real insight into the company and how they work together as a team. There is also time for staff to raise and concerns or share any ideas on improvements for the company.

Accommodation

If you need to find accommodation near to Bourne House Cottage then there is accommodation available in Lichfield which can be found by using Booking.com .

Transport

I commuted from my home address in Nuneaton which took me 35 minutes a day by car and there is space to park at Bourne House. The postcode for the Satnav is WS14 OPJ and you can use AA Route Planner  to plan your trip. However if you would be commuting from long distance there is accommodation available in Lichfield which can be found by using Booking.com . If you are not going to be staying in accommodation and will be commuting but do not have a car the nearest train station is in Tamworth and there is Taxi's waiting outside that can then take you to your next destination. Unfortunately there is no bus stop near to Bourne House anymore.

Social life

Whilst I was at my placement I did not indulge in any of the surround social destination; however I am fairly familiar with them and it all depends on what your looking for. Tamworth has a wide variety of restaurants and bars  including The African Restaurant Nandos and the nightclub Kuda . Lichfield is also a town full of plenty of options for social destinations which include   Le Reve Cocktail Bar  and the Three Spires Shopping Centre .

Things to do, things not to do

Definitely go for a meal at The Old School House in Weeford if you are staying locally; the food it gorgeous. Make sure that when you are driving to work if you are driving to the placement that you slow down when entering Weeford as Bourne house if off the main road into a one way country drive way.
