Placement Information

NHES provide a range of academic support options for mostly the Muslim community. There is a vast age range and an even wider academic range throughout the setting. This placement is a good choice for students who are living in Nottingham and enjoy making a difference academically. It's also a great way of brushing up forgotten maths and english skills whilst experiencing being a 'teacher' first hand.

Accommodation

I live in Nottingham anyway to be close to the university, therefore I didn't have any extra accommodation costs.

Transport

To get to the Saturday sight you need to either catch the tram to the forest and walk for 5 minutes to the setting or catch various buses to the forest from Victoria centre. it is also within walking distance, about 20 minutes should you wish.

For the Sunday session you need to get the number 43 Bakersfield bus and walk uphill to the setting.

Social life

As a student at Nottingham Trent the night-life remains the same during placement period.

Things to do, things not to do

Have an open mind and put effort into the setting.

Build relationships with staff and service users.

Do not try and take on a power role the children will not appreciate this and you will not get the most out of the setting.

Throw yourself in head first, that way your sure to get the best placement experience.

Useful Contacts

Placement manager: Parvez Khan

He is the best person to speak to with any concerns and values being kept up to date by volunteers, also should you not be able to attend a session for any reason he will be more than reasonable.

Before you go

Visit the setting before hand to ensure you know where to go and how to manage your time efficiently in order to arrive early or on time.
