Placement Information

Ruddington Day Nursery cares for over 70 children over the 5 day week. The nursery has a forest school programme which they conduct one a day every week for a 6 week time period. This takes place in the local wood which is about 5 minutes away in the minibus. The nursery is set up into different ages. Downstairs is pre school plus ( the oldest children) then the Lions ( toddler age group) , then bear cubs ( babies) and the tigers ( 2 year olds) . The jungle (Pre- School) has the largest amount of children so they are based upstairs, with access to a classroom, computers and a role play room.

Accomodation

As the placement is in Ruddington and still based in Nottingham I stayed in my student house in West Bridgford. However there are many cheap places to stay in Nottingham city centre like the travelodge on maid Marian way, If you book in advance rooms start at £29 a night. And then you could catch the bus to the nursery from the city centre. I would say its best to either already live in Nottingham, unless you have a friend or family that lives here or you can drive. Otherwise Accommodation fees may end up costing alot.

Transport

If you have a car it may be quicker and end up cheaper depending where you are coming from. If not the Ruddington Connection bus line starts its route at broad marsh bus station in Nottingham city centre, and there is a stop right outside the nursery. Just be careful you don't miss the stop as the next one is a bit of a walk away. The Ruddigton connection is not on the NCT  line so if you have a student bus pass you cant use it. The price I paid was £3.70 for a kangaroo ticket (like a city rider). I went to the placement 4 days a week for the three week period, and bus fare cost me just under £45. So if you do have a car it may be cheaper and quicker.

Social life

Nottingham City Centre has many shops, restaurants, pubs, bars, museums, there is the royal concert hall which is the theatre, the corner house with the cinema. There is the ice arena, a bowling alley  ans sometimes in market square there may be some stalls or the big wheel.

Things to do, things not to do

Before you go

Just be aware although I loved the placement and didn't want to leave on my last day,The nursery's forest school programme is great but depending on when placement is you might not get to see it in action. So for the international side it may not be the best choice. I didn't know this before I went but managed got to see two forest school trips as it ended that week. Until the next three weeks has passed.

However the nursery is lovely the staff are amazing and so helpful I was given loads of sheets and booklets about forest school, and given some resources that may even help me in other modules which was really good. The children were really excited to have a new person in the class and they were all amazing too. I would definitely reccomend the Nursery for a placement.
